Building Your First Dynamic Model
Introduction
What is Sysdea? Why Sysdea? How to use Sysdea?
As we have advanced further with the course, we reached the point where we wanted to personally get to know and use the models we are examining in our classwork. Dr. Arash Golnam introduced us to the online modelling website that allows us to create and develop our own dynamic systems - Sysdea. With his guidance and online resources, we managed to understand and become familiar with the online program to be able to properly construct our own models. Sysdea is a modern online modelling software that allows one to create dynamic systems to observe and experiment theoretical models that are applied to day-to-day activities and economic, environmental, social and/or governmental sectors. The ability to construct and manipulate the model provides 3 benefits to the user:
Key Concepts
The Sysdea model consists of 3 basic elements: Stocks which accumulate and deplete, Flows that give input and output of the stocks, and Variables that have an effect on the progress of the simulation. Each element is interconnected and a simple change within can cause a complete alteration of the system. In addition, we can insert subelements like functions and submodels to further improve the simulation of the system.

- Speed and Correction - once you get familiar with the interface, Sysdea will complete the other part for you. Firstly, it will help you with the fast construction of a draft, the suggestion feature will let you choose information that can be connected - except the data that you have to insert manually - and will give you an immediate feedback about the correctness of your modelling skills.
- Possibility to Compare - the software allows you to simultaneously run the same model with different data and show how a single variable could alter the system.
- Report and Share - after the simulation has been completed, it is possible to create a shared link with your friend and wait for his appraisal!

To have a clearer view of the results achieved, there is also a possibility to insert a Presentation Element such as charts and tables to better display the progression towards the final outcome.

Conclusion
By acquiring more experience in modelling, we understand the depth of the interconnection between stocks, flows and variables. Furthermore, the more time you spend in the software the more you are able to construct "extreme" models which can illustrate multinational, multisectoral, multicorporational indutries where we can see how each department is linked to each other and pinpoint bottlenecks in order to increase performance.
